Forest Hop

from Benjamin by Brooks Strause

/

lyrics

Loudly pouncing through golden leaves in the forest we belong to, he takes the posture of that ancient tendency to discover and express. He embodies the primitive need to run a color-doused finger over a wall, for me, for now. I slither down my own path, through the leaves and to the stream, to peer into the water. I breathe slowly. In, nose. Out, mouth. My lungs expand and collapse, like the history of everything. I wonder what we could be but one.
